401k

The term 401K refers to this type of retirement plan. In this type of account, an employer establishes an investment account through an investment broker or planner. The employee is able to contribute pretax dollars to the account. The funds are not taxed prior to going in the retirement account. Some employers elect to provide a match, which means that they will match the employee's contributions to their 401K to a certain extent. The government does not require 401K investments reported as income at the time of investment. Rather, the funds will grow tax deferred until removal during retirement. This is one of the most common forms of retirement planning vehicles, because of the tax advantages it offers.
