Debt Securities

Debt securities are a vehicle of trade, usually taking form as a physical or electronic certificate, that represent a financial debt owed to an investor. The term security generally refers to any value represented in such a way, but debt securities differ in that they require some form of interest to be paid in exchange for the investment made. With a debt security, the person buying receives a certain income because of this interest. As a result, debt securities are also commonly known as fixed income securities. Provided by government and non-government organizations, they are also considered to be a good investment due to their generally consistent return, which make them more advantageous than equity securities. Some of the most common types are corporate bonds, government bonds, CDs, stocks, and corporate securities.
