Education Bond Types

The term education bond types can be somewhat confusing. The term bond is defined as a loan in which a rate of interest is applied to the borrowed funds that is repaid at a specific date. Individuals can invest in a wide range of bond types, including savings bonds and surety bonds. However, education bonds are something different. Education bonds are taken out to provide for education of a student by a qualified taxpayer. There is a savings bond education tax exclusion that allows for taxpayers to reduce their gross income in all or in party for qualified higher education expenses.
