Emergency Management

Emergency management is the practice of preventing and confronting risks that may occur. In theory, emergency management starts at an individual level, with individuals making their own preparation for emergencies. The natural thought process we appropriate to dealing with these risks serves as the basis for emergency management. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a government organization in charge of emergency management at a national level. Created in response to an executive order by President Carter, FEMA operates in cooperation with other government agencies to prepare and respond to emergencies. First and foremost, FEMA develops a plan of action that should be taken in the event of an emergency. FEMA also organizes funds for the purpose of these emergencies, offering them later as assistance to those who have been negatively affected by an emergency. The billions of dollars in funding have been resourced to earthquakes, fires, floods, terrorist attacks, and other such emergencies in the past.
