Income Bonds

Income bonds are a type of investment. They are a type of bond that is a promise to pay interest only when earned by the issuer. Unlike other bonds, in this type, failure to pay interest does not cause a default of the bond. It is a debt security. Unlike other types, only the face value of the bond is considered promised to be repaid to the investor who purchased it. The only time in which coupon payments, or interest payments, are made is when the issuing company has earned enough in profit to pay for the coupon payment. In this type of scenario, the income bond investor may not earn a considerable amount of profit from the bond. Selection of the right income bonds is vital to turn out a profit on this type of investment.
