Internet Identity Theft

Internet identity theft is a term used commonly to refer to any type of identity theft fraud situation in which the internet is used to perpetrate the fraud. Common internet scams include the use of fake emails requesting personally identifying information that can then be collected and used to steal the identity of another person, such as through application of loans and credit cards. This type of theft may also include websites that try to grab personal data from collecting keystrokes with spyware. This type of malicious virus can be on a computer without the user knowing it. All forms of Internet identity theft are illegal and they should be on report to the Federal Trade Commission in the United States.
