investment income

For purposes of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), investment income is the income that a given person receives in a tax year from an investment. Normally, a person would receive income from employment, but investments are one of the various other sources that income can come from. As such, persons who profit from an investment are legally obligated to report on their investment income as they would on income received from employment. Investment income can amass from interest, capital gain, security, assets, and many other investments. Opposite investment income, there is also something called investment losses, which consists of losses that resulted from an investment. Investment income on taxes must be reported according to the IRS's standards.
