Investment Securities

In short, investment securities are a term to describe a type of investment that in some way using a security as backing. For example, a security is a financing or investment instrument bought and sold in the financial markets. This may be a negotiable security, but others are not negotiable. Some examples of investment securities include warrants, stocks, which are also shares, options, notes, bonds and debentures. These securities may have issue by a government agency, or a business. The security denotes the amount of ownership interest the buyer of the security receives in the business itself. Other important facts include the distribution of property and earnings, all of which are determined ahead of time. Insurance policies are not securities. Stock exchanges are common places for securities to trade.
