Money Market Mutual Funds

A money market mutual fund is a type of open-end mutual fund in which the investments of the fund are only made in money market investments. Money market mutual funds invest in only short-term debt obligations. This includes those ranging from one day to up to one year. The most common types of these funds include Treasury bills, commercial paper investments and certificate of deposit funds. The goal of using this type of investment is to preserve the principal investment and to earn modest levels of dividends. To make the accounting simplistic with these accounts, the Net Asset Value will remain a constant $1 per share. The interest rate on these accounts does fluctuate.
