Mutual Funds

Mutual funds are a type of open ended fund. This fund is designed to operate by an investment company. Shareholders (or investors) raise money for the fund by the investment in a group of assets. Each mutual fund has an objective and all investments of assets are designed to adhere to that specific goal. The mutual fund is able to raise money by selling shares of the fund to the public. This is done in a method that is quite similar to raising money for a company. The funds received from this sale are then invested into assets. Those assets may include bonds, money market accounts or other investment vehicles. The shareholders who buy into the mutual fund receive equity in the fund. In this regard, the shareholders gain equity in the actual investments, or underlying securities that are held by the fund.
