Short Term Disability Pregnancy

Under the rules of short term disability, pregnancy qualifies for short term benefits. It is described as an unexpected illness relating to your pregnancy that affects your work. While on short term disability for pregnancy, an individual will receive a portion of their salary or wages. All American states and Canadian provinces and territories have included some form of short term disability for pregnancy in their acceptable policies. While pregnancy is not itself a disability, illnesses such as severe morning sickness or prescribed bed rest are considered disabling. These may be covered by a group plan at the workplace. An individual may also request this type of coverage from an insurance broker or agent. Be sure to look at the policy carefully. An employer may have unpaid disability leave. It is also necessary to see how long anyone must work before they are eligible for short term pregnancy leave. Check into what your insurance plan would entail. An insurance company will usually not cover an existing pregnancy. They will only cover the next one. Time limits are also placed on how long the benefits may last. It is usually around 6 weeks.
