Supplemental Security Income Disability Programs

The supplemental security income disability program is government operated. It is a federal program in the United States that is meant to address the needs of the disabled. In fact, the disabled program is merely a branch of the Supplemental Security Income Program that was instituted for meeting the needs of both the aged and the disabled. Under this program, an individual receives a monthly income. The recipients must qualify under medical restrictions. This includes a very exact definition of what constitutes a disability. It also refers to total rather than partial disabilities. The disability must be such as to prevent any individual from engaging in "Substantial Gainful Activity." The Social Security Agency in charge of the program provides a list of acceptable disabilities. It is the "Listing of Impairment." There is a medical proof requirement. The individual must provide evidence that this disability will last longer than 1 year. Individuals who apply for the supplemental security income disability program are also expected to meet specific income resources guidelines. Their income must be a set level and for 2009, you must not have made more than $980 per month.
